Game 20: Rangers vs. LA

After a strong win in Montreal, the Rangers are home tonight to take on the LA Kings, who are without star goalie Jonathan Quick. Don’t let that fool you, the Kings have won two straight with Ben Scrivins in net, and will be looking to exact revenge on the Rangers, who beat them 3-1 in October. That was a different Rangers team though.

On the ice, Daryl Sutter is an aggressive coach and they play similar to how the Rangers used to under Torts.  The Kings run an aggressive 2-1-2 forecheck. In the defensive zone they run an overload/low zone collapse, depending on puck location/game situation.

On special teams Sutter has them running an umbrella PP and a hybrid penalty kill depending on opposition setup. Overall, this is a team that will look to pressure the Rangers non-stop, but this is also a team that hasn’t faced the Rangers since they hit their stride.

Hopefully the Rangers can put together a better effort than the Habs did on their second of back to backs. Not having Quick is a tough blow for the Kings.

Rough goal there, but Cally can’t just give the puck away in the NZ like that.

Unfortunate. Looked tired, but at least we are in every game. Our past 4 losses to Kings, Ducks, Devils and Montreal we were very unlucky. I think tonight we definitely deserved to lose, but we give ourself a chance in every game.

Nash is also coming back months earlier than I was expecting and we have won 8 of 12 and ended our snide in montreal. We are also holding our own against playoff teams.

    • Dave says:

If they beat Boston Tuesday, it’s 2-1 against 3 teams headed to the playoffs. I’ll take it.

  6. Chris F says:

Hank has every right to be furious tonight, he played superb all night and was a quarter of an inch away from perfect. But he gets the loss nevertheless because nobody could finish tonight.

It’s not as if they played bad, they did get plenty of chances and shots, it’s more that the Kings played so well. They dominated faceoffs and battled for the pucks relentlessly. The Rangers were off on passing and they were sloppy with the puck in their own end. That no-goal at the end was a sick, cruel joke. I got so excited and the reaction from Moore was contagious. Alas, all for naught.
