The New York Rangers have acquired defenseman Marcus Pettersson from the Vancouver Canucks for a 2030 top-10 protected 1st round pick, per Thomas Drance. Defenseman Will Borgen’s name hit the rumor mill this morning, but that never came to fruition. Marcus Pettersson is a solid all around left defenseman, giving the Rangers a solid 2LD behind Vlad Gavrikov and (likely) ahead of Drew Fortescue. This also ensures Alberts Smits isn’t rushed to the NHL.

This trade likely means the Rangers are now out on Alex Nikishin, and with Sean Durzi in tow it means at least one more big trade is coming. It’s kind of funny though, since the Rangers sent a 1st round pick to Vancouver for JT Miller. That 1st rounder went to Pittsburgh for Pettersson. Now Pettersson is a Ranger. Life is a circle.
