The hits keep on coming for the Rangers, as Matt Rempe is out week to week with an upper body injury. The injury was sustained on Tuesday night in Los Angeles after a fight with Kings forward Tanner Jeannot. Given the timing of the Matt Rempe injury, he is probably done for the regular season, or the year if the Rangers miss the playoffs. Rempe has come a long way from his struggles with controlling his body, and while not perfect, he’s become a very effective fourth liner.
His injury means Brett Berard, who was a scratch for the recalled Nicolas Aube-Kubel, will get back into the lineup to close out the California swing. Sam Carrick is still with his wife and newborn. Given where the Rangers are right now, there’s more benefit to keeping Berard in the lineup when Carrick returns, as the Matt Rempe injury gives the Rangers a nice reason to see what the kids can do.
