Rangers recall Chad Ruhwedel; return Matthew Robertson to Hartford

The Rangers recalled defenseman Chad Ruhwedel, reassigning defenseman Matthew Robertson to the Hartford Wolf Pack in the same move. This was an expected move, as Robertson hasn’t played since his recall and Ruhwedel has been playing well in Hartford. It makes no sense to have Robertson sitting in the press box when Ruhwedel was signed to do just that.

Though with the Carson Soucy trade, the Rangers now have 8 defensemen on the roster. It’s expected that the Rangers will deal Zac Jones at some point today, perhaps in a larger deal involving the odd JJ Peterka rumors. The deadline is 3pm today, so we shall see how this unfolds. It doesn’t make much sense to have the Rangers carry 8 defensemen, 9 if you include the injured Adam Fox.
