Following his injury in the Rangers win over the Islanders, the Blueshirts have placed Adam Fox on IR with a left shoulder injury. Fox went down in the 5-1 win over the Isles and went straight to the tunnel, which is generally a bad thing in regards to injury severity. The Rangers are saying he could be back for the stretch run, but if the Rangers are smart, they shut him down for the year. No point in rushing him back. Learn from past mistakes.
The Rangers have recalled Matthew Robertson in the interim, who has been playing well in Hartford. The Rangers 2nd round pick in 2019, Robertson hasn’t broken into the NHL after struggling to adjust to the AHL following a strong WHL career. The 23 year old may just be a late bloomer, but this is probably his last chance with the Rangers.
It’s expected that Zac Jones will replace Fox in the lineup for the time being, and perhaps Robertson will get a game here and there after the inevitable Ryan Lindgren trade that is likely coming at the deadline.
