The Rangers have recalled winger Brett Berard and placed Chris Kreider on IR retroactive to last week. Berard was excellent in his first stint with the Rangers, playing in 19 games and scoring 3 goals and 4 assists while playing third line minutes. Berard was returned to Hartford in January and almost immediately got injured, which is one of the reasons why he wasn’t recalled sooner.

To make room for Berard, the Rangers placed Kreider on IR retroactive to last week. Since the minimum stay on IR is 7 days, he can be activated at any time, but given the timing, he’s probably out for a little bit longer. There’s also a chance the Rangers are simply playing it safe with Kreider for trade deadline reasons, as he would be one of the big trade pieces in the retool they are undergoing.
