It’s been a busy day for Chris Drury. Just hours after announcing the Jacob Trouba trade, it was announced that the Rangers re-sign Igor Shesterkin for 8 years with an $11.5 million cap hit. The $11.5 million cap hit has been assumed for quite some time, but it was the years that weren’t confirmed. Eight years is a long time, but Shesterkin is one of five goalies in the NHL worth the money and the commitment.

There is a general feeling that spending a ton of money on a goalie is folly, but the Panthers and Lightning have proven you can win with a high paid goalie and a well constructed team. As Drury continues to make his mark on the Rangers, the latter is the most important thing the Rangers are missing.

We knew Drury wasn’t done, and he probably still isn’t. That may be it for the holidays, though.
