Per Arthur Staple, the Rangers are making a big change, placing Jacob Trouba on waivers this afternoon if he does not accept one of the rumored trades on the table with the Rangers. He has been held out of the morning skate tonight and will not play tonight. This will effectively end Trouba’s tenure in New York. It’s assumed there is a team willing to put in a claim, or else Jacob Trouba on waivers wouldn’t make much sense, much like Barclay Goodrow.

Trouba finishes his Rangers career with a line of 31-105-136 in 364 games while mostly being miscast as a shutdown defender. His contract was doomed from the start, as he was acquired and then signed to be the Rangers top puck mover, but Adam Fox emerged as one of the best defensemen in the NHL, changing Trouba’s role to something he wasn’t suited for.

In the end, Trouba’s legacy as captain will be marred by the drama and the mishandling of his situation this summer, bleeding into December.

Victor Mancini has been recalled to replace Trouba on the roster.
