Per Arthur Staple, the New York Rangers caught a huge break. Filip Chytil, after meeting with specialists, does not have another concussion. He will meet the Rangers in Calgary tomorrow. With Chytil joining the Rangers in Calgary, it means tonight’s game in Vancouver will (hopefully) be the last without him in the lineup on this trip. They looked good in Seattle, but Edmonton looms large this weekend.
Jonny Brodzinski filled in quite nicely for Chytil in Seattle and will presumably do so again tonight in Vancouver. Brodzinski is a solid fourth liner and 13F for the Rangers, but he was going to be exposed as the 3C if Chytil was out long term. Depth wins, and Chytil–as one of the Rangers’ top 5v5 players–really provides that lineup depth the Rangers have sorely lacked in recent years.
When Chytil joins the team, Jake Leschyshyn will likely be returned to Hartford.
