Per Elliotte Friedman, the Rangers may be targeting Teuvo Teravainen or Tyler Toffoli on the free agent market. It is clear to note the he is saying “educated guess” so take this with a grain of salt. It is also worth noting he did nail Sam Carrick to the Rangers, announced this morning. Still, no one bats 1.000.

Teravainen has been a consistent 20-goal, 50-point player for the Carolina Hurricanes, save for a rough 2022-2023 season. Teravainen is a middle-six winger who can certainly create space and might be a better fit with Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad. He moves the puck well, is sound in all three zones, and is certainly strong defensively. The concern about his fit with Zibanejad and Kreider would be offensive play driving.

As for Toffoli, he’s a strong offensive producer but pretty rough defensively. As a winger with two strong two-way players in Zibanejad and Kreider, that can be absorbed. The concern would be whether he’s a true pass-first player, perhaps not being a good fit for Kreider and Zibanejad.

Per Evolving-Hockey, Teravainen is projected to get a whopping 5 year, $6.8 million contract, whereas Toffoli is more “reasonable” in the 3 year, $6.1 million range. Given what we’ve been told about cap space in 2026, both of their–highly unlikely–two year deal estimates are in the $5.5 million range.
