Jacob Trouba has won the 2024 Mark Messier Leadership Award. The award is presented each year “to the player who exemplifies great leadership qualities to his team, on and off the ice, during the regular season and who plays a leading role in his community growing the game of hockey.”
Messier selects the winner himself after input from across the league. This year, it was Trouba’s award. Despite being named for and selected by Messier, Trouba is the first Ranger to win the award.
While many fans don’t like Trouba as the captain, truth be told, it doesn’t really matter what we think (personally, I think he’s a solid captain). Trouba was picked by the Rangers players, and there’s a reason for it. He clearly is viewed as the vocal leader in the locker room. He’s also very involved with various NYC charities off the ice, including Garden of Dreams.
Trouba is a deserving winner of the 2024 Mark Messier Leadership Award.
