Rangers defense injury updates

We have some positive Rangers defense injury updates. Per Mollie Walker, both Ryan Lindgren and Jacob Trouba are skating this morning in the Rangers optional skate. Neither had a no contact jersey on, which doubles up on the good news. There is no timetable, and naturally the longer they rest the better given both of their struggles this season.

However with Erik Gustafsson now injured as well, perhaps there is a bigger need to have at least one in the lineup sooner rather than later. We won’t know until we see how the Rangers look tonight with all three of Zac Jones, Chad Ruhwedel, and Brandon Scanlin in the lineup.

Jones has been excellent and is actually forcing a change in the conversation about who should play when fully healthy. Ruhwedel has always been the 7D since his acquisition, but he’s as solid as they come in his own end. Scanlin is a wild card, but all reports point to him being a solid Ruhwedel-type defenseman.

I am guessing the target for at least one of Lindgren or Trouba is April 1, after their last trip out west this season. But if they look bad against Philly, they might rush one back for the Colorado game.
