As expected, the Rangers recalled Matt Rempe after 5pm today, just a few hours after he and Adam Edstrom were returned to Hartford on paper transactions. Before the Jack Roslovic trade, the Rangers were able to recall both. But now due to roster size, they were only able to recall one.
It’s a bit surprising that the recall was Rempe and not Edstrom, since Edstrom seemed to be the steadier player. However Rempe has been stealing headlines. Both are likely to be solid contributors in regular ice time next season though.
The Rangers will be carrying Rempe as the spare forward, plus both Zac Jones and Chad Ruhwedel as spare defensemen. When rosters expand for the playoffs, expect more players up as Black Aces, but only after the Hartford Wolf Pack’s season ends.
