The Ranges have returned defenseman Connor Mackey to the Hartford Wolf Pack, signaling no blue line injuries and the return of Jacob Trouba from suspension. Mackey was never going to be a mainstay in New York unless there were significant injuries, but he did get one game during his last call up before the All Star break and bye week.
Mackey played 16:27 against Ottawa, notching a fight and a +1 rating. His fight with Brady Tkachuk was pretty well timed, as he took out Ottawa’s best player for 5 minutes. The Rangers scored three times in that 5 minute span, turning a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead that would become a 7-2 win.
Mackey is pretty set as the 8D right now, behind Zac Jones as the 7D. If the Rangers do not acquire a depth defenseman at the deadline, then we should expect the same defense depth heading into the playoffs.
