Jonny Brodzinski earned a roster spot, but will he keep it?

Well, it looks like we know what Chris Drury was up to yesterday when he sent Jonny Brodzinski, Connor Mackey, and Louis Domingue to Hartford. It was a salary cap move. The Rangers have recalled all three from Hartford and they will be with the team at least through Tuesday’s tilt against the Detroit Red Wings.

Returning all three was either going to mean at least two missing Rangers –most likely Igor Shesterkin (injury) and Barclay Goodrow (family)–were ready to return. Goodrow is most likely to return soonest, and calling up Brodzinski may be an insurance policy or perhaps a renewed roster spot contest with Tyler Pitlick.

Domingue isn’t going to see the ice unless Jonathan Quick is pulled from a game. Connor Mackey may be Zac Jones insurance, as the kid just hasn’t looked that great in two games thus far. We will likely find out more today and tomorrow morning.
