Jonny Brodzinski extension

In what can only be viewed as a good thing, the Rangers have reassigned Jonny Brodzinski, Connor Mackey, and Louis Domingue back to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL. All three were called up in advance of the Rangers loss to Minnesota last night.

There are two schools of thought to these roster moves. The first is that both Igor Shesterkin and Barclay Goodrow will be good to go for Tuesday’s tilt against Detroit at MSG. It’s certainly possible that both or at least one will be ready to go. It does not seem like Filip Chytil will be cleared by then.

The other possibility is the trio, or part of the trio, will be recalled after 5pm on Tuesday to maximize cap space and limit the daily accrual of having multiple extra bodies on the roster. We saw similar cap saving moves when the Rangers were looking to add Patrick Kane last year, but most notably this was used with the taxi squads in the Covid shortened season.
