The Rangers have made their first cuts of 2023 training camp, trimming the roster by 11 players. None of the players cut were a surprise, as none were ever in the running for an NHL spot. The 11 players cut does not include goalie Olof Lindbom, who was cut earlier today, so the Rangers cut 12 players today, again none of them with any real hope of making the NHL roster this year.
Lindbom, along with Maxim Barbashev, Seth Barton, Zach Berzolla, Ryan McCleary, and Sahil Panwar have all been assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL. Of this group, Barbashev is the guy to watch. Barbashev put up a solid 32-33-65 in 67 games with Moncton in the QMJHL. The 2022 5th round pick has looked like a good pick for now (and yes, I’m aware I forgot about him when doing this year’s Top 25 Under 25).
Joe Arntsen, Bryce McConnell-Barker, Max McCue, James Petrovski, and Dylan Roobroeck will all be returned to their respective CHL teams. McConnell-Barker is the guy to watch here. The Rangers also released Brad Arvantis from his PTO.
The Rangers have 48 players left in camp. It’s expected they will make another round of cuts before Tuesday’s preseason game.
