Rangers assign goalie Olof Lindbom to Hartford

The first casualty of camp has been identified, as goalie Olof Lindbom has been assigned to Hartford. Lindbom was one of six goalies in camp and is the first to be cut among goalies and skaters. We know that Igor Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick will be with the Rangers, so it’s a matter of how the other four play that determines AHL/ECHL status.

Lindbom was the Rangers 2nd round pick in 2018, a pick that was widely criticized because Lindbom wasn’t projected to go that high and the Rangers spent a high pick on a goalie. The Rangers notably passed on guys like Sean Durzi, Jack Drury, Ryan McLeod, Calen Addison, and other NHLers to draft Lindbom, a goalie who likely won’t make it to the NHL.
