With their second 6th round pick and likely final pick of the 2023 NHL Draft, the NY Rangers took forward Ty Henricks out of the USHL. Much like Dylan Roobroeck, Henricks is a giant that doesn’t do much else. At 6’5 and 200 lbs, the Rangers love guys like him in the later rounds, and it’s a big (see what I did there?) reason why they simply never hit on these late round guys. Size without skill is useless in the NHL.
That said, you never know what happens with these late round picks. It would be nice to draft a guy with tools that hasn’t put it together, but that doesn’t seem to be the Rangers style. They had a nice plan with their first two picks, but then went off the board with overagers and giants in the later rounds. Not the strategy I like, and it’s been proven multiple times to simply not work.
I’ll defer to others about the players themselves.
