The NY Rangers enter tonight’s/tomorrow’s 2023 NHL Draft with just five picks. They have picks in the first, third, fifth, and sixth (2) rounds this year after a number of trades have seen their draft capital depleted. There are rumors the Rangers may add more picks via trade, but as of now, nothing has materialized.

Here’s the breakdown of the Rangers picks, and how they were acquired.

  • 1st round (#23 overall) – original pick
  • 3rd round (#91 overall) – trade with Colorado for Alex Georgiev
  • 5th round (#152 overall) – trade with Edmonton for Jayden Grubbe
  • 6th round (#178 overall) – trade with Winnipeg as part of Andrew Copp deal
  • 6th round (#183 overall) – original pick

In addition, the Rangers acquired/traded several picks in this draft.

  • 1st round (#29 overall) – acquired from Dallas for Nils Lundkvist, sent to St. Louis for Vlad Tarasenko
  • 2nd round (#55 overall) – traded to Chicago in Patrick Kane deal
  • 3rd round (#87 overall) – traded to Flyers for Justin Braun in 2022
  • 4th round (#119 overall) – traded to Vancouver for Tyler Motte in 2022
  • 5th round (#151 overall) – traded to Winnipeg for Andrew Copp in 2022
  • 7th round (#215 overall) – traded to Ottawa for Tyler Motte in 2023
