Delays in the NY Rangers coaching search is not for Joel Quenneville.

Per Larry Brooks, who is doing the work in keeping us sane among these Joel Quenneville rumors, the New York Rangers coaching search delays have nothing to do with Joel Quenneville. Brooks had stated earlier this month that Quenneville is not an option for the Rangers, and is sticking by that. Chris Drury is simply showing patience as he waits out the coaching landscape.

The Rangers coaching search is likely on hold while Drury waits out the Pittsburgh Penguins and Mike Sullivan. There have been some wild rumors surrounding the Penguins, from Ron Hextall’s dismissal to Sully gaining too much power in the organization to Kyle Dubas (and potentially Sheldon Keefe) potentially landing there.

Sully has always been at the top of the list of potential candidates to replace Gerard Gallant, and is Drury’s preferred target. He’s under contract with the Penguins though, and is rumored to be held in high regard by new owners FSG. If Dubas gets the job and takes Sheldon Keefe with him, then the Rangers coaching search will ramp up at light speed for Sullivan.
