Delays in the NY Rangers coaching search is not for Joel Quenneville.

Per Larry Brooks, the Rangers will not be pursuing Joel Quenneville as an option for their vacant head coaching position. Quenneville has documented success and on the ice would be a good coach. But he supposedly played a huge role in the Kyle Beach sexual assault cover up, which should disqualify him from any head coaching position or even being reinstated to the NHL.

With Quenneville off the table, the Rangers are either going in-house with Kris Knoblauch or going with another retread. It’s likely the search for a coach will take a while as Drury waits (hopes) to see if Mike Sullivan is let go by the Pittsburgh Penguins (unlikely at best). The coaching landscape isn’t overly great at the moment.

This is a wise choice by Drury. The PR nightmare with Quenneville wasn’t worth it.
