After a somewhat disappointing 4-2-1 stretch against mediocre teams, falling short of the 10 points we had hoped for, the Rangers return home to face the Oilers. Edmonton is a ‘meh’ team that has a great powerplay, so staying out of the box is going to be key for the Blueshirts. Also key will be actually scoring on suspect goaltending, assuming Jack Campbell is in net. If it’s Stuart Skinner, that’s a whole other problem.
The Rangers now have a stretch of difficult opponents, so leaving points on the table last month may come back to bite them. Of course, if they play up to their tougher opponents, that won’t be a problem. On paper, this team is better than most teams in the NHL. But that’s on paper. On the ice has been a different story. This is when the Rangers need to really start focusing, and that does include coaching and avoiding the good ole lineup galaxy brain.
