After a one game absence, Alexis Lafreniere returns to the lineup today against Detroit. Lafreniere was a healthy scratch on Wednesday’s win over the Flyers, which drew the ire of a good amount of fans.

Lafreniere’s healthy scratch was simply a reason to get the kid some rest. He’s one of many that will likely get some rest down the stretch, as the Rangers are basically set with second place in the division. It’s not a guarantee, but it’s pretty close.
There was a period of time yesterday where Lafreniere appeared to be a healthy scratch again for today’s game, and the reaction was as expected. But let’s take a step back here. Lafreniere has been visibly gassed this season. It’s his first full NHL season, and while others certainly need a rest, he’s the first one that came to mind for the Rangers resting players. Conditioning is certainly going to be an area where he needs to improve in the offseason.
