As expected, Tony DeAngelo has cleared waivers, as no team claimed him for free. DeAngelo was placed on waivers yesterday, and reports are coming in that it was a series of incidents that led to this. It culminated with his fight with Alex Georgiev two days ago.
The Rangers are likely to continue seeking a trade, but that will be complicated. DeAngelo has a backloaded contract and another year left on his deal. The Rangers will need to either retain salary or take back a similar contract.
If the Rangers don’t trade him, a buyout is possible in the offseason. They might try to terminate his contract, but if DeAngelo doesn’t have something else lined up, it may be difficult to go that route.
