NY Rangers Game 6 Open Thread: Life without Chytil

The Rangers begin life without Filip Chytil tonight in Buffalo against the surprising Sabres. As Rob pointed out, the Sabres are no pushover. They are one of the better teams in regards to underlying metrics. They also have some good top-six skill. They aren’t a *good* team, but this is a potential trap game for the Rangers.

The Rangers lines are unclear at the writing of this post, but it is assumed that Brett Howden will move up to the third line in place of Chytil. Brendan Lemieux will get back in the lineup, and Colin Blackwell will shift to center.

  • Johnson is in which is a joke and Jeff Skinner on the Sabres fourth line? How the mighty have fallen

    • Not just Johnson. The team looks so unmotivated for the amount of talent that is here. That tells me it’s more of a coaching problem or DQ is over his head as an NHL coach. Miller is a bright spot though

  • Agree That JJ needs to become a part of the press box. Shame about Chytil – really liked his game and thought he was on verge of breakout year. Tonight they are matched against a very similar team – both young, both with all star wings, top draft picks and future star Dman. Sabres have not been trapping as much as other teams in division so should be a fun game to watch.

  • I would’ve liked to see Igor get this start tonight. I thought DQ would’ve given him the chance to bounce back and find some kind of rythm. Georgiev has a lot more NHL experience to be able to handle the yo-yo effect. But if Igor is expected to be the #1 guy in the long term, then I think Quinn could give him a game here to see how he reacts.

The guy at the FAN or someplace like that had an article today about it too. It doesn’t make sense to me when Quinn does things short-sighted like this.

  • I do not want to hear about grinding……. or ‘Getting Better ” or “I like the way we played “…….Sooner or later I gotta ask >>>>>>When can winning games be important so…..Lets Go Rangers !!!!!

  • 1-1 game right now …..We better be the team that scores next…..You do not get good quick in sports …..But becoming a bad team can happen real quick !!!!!

  • Good work Miller! Were JJ and TDA on for a scoring chance for at all? Felt like they played basically the whole time in the D or neutral zones. More than a couple poor exits (although a couple of good ones too), and some weak neutral zone play for them both. Sigh.

Still waiting for see Laffy though. Every time another highly touted rookie scores on another time (like Cozens), I get a little sad. But hey, even Jackie Hughes sucked last year, and this year he’s pulled it together.

  • As soon as Sabres tied the game, the team stopped skating…..Dumb penalties..missed assignments….lazy passing….very alarming and if I’m Quinn, I would be concerned about my job status because sugar coating about this player looking good or that rookie playing well… it’s not enough…I do not like what I see…..Tony D…Trouba….terrible so far this year…..Zips..Panarin…where are they??????

  • ADA missed two games and Lemieux sat one for stupid penalties, but DQ would never sit down Kreider who takes boneheaded penalties seems every game.

  • Well, I am done with this coach……I really believed in Quinn, but not no more……Leadership for what seems forever, cannot find a coach that can teach to win faceoffs, can’t seem to actually teach young players, as there seems no patience to teach…yet continue to inform the fan base to be patient…..ridiculous…….and what is JD doing? He can’t possibly be happy with this teams start to the season.

    • I have been OK with our head coach …….But if we do not start winning some games very very very soon that WILL change !!!!!

      • Lazy JJ penalty is a replay of game 1 against the Islanders. DQ continues to deploy the wrong players in this line. He also continues to move players up and down the lineup which is driving (1) disjointed play (2) no flow on any line and (3) Mika, Strome, Panarin, D’Angelo are invisible through 6 games. I sure as heck hope JD is watching these games like Ranger bloggers are! I agree with you, HOF19

  • Got called away……Just got back to my den….Turn on TV AND………We are losing ……For some reason I am not surprised.

      • Mika’s game is really off. His bout with Covid seems to have deprived him of his 5th gear, which is where he was ALL of last year. Come on Mika and turn the corner

  • Remember last season we could have traded Kreider, Strome, Fast & ADA. This is brutal. There is absolutely no fire in this team. Playing right where they left off in the playoffs – let’s get this thing over so we can go home.

  • New lines:
    Panarin – Zib – Kappo
    Lafrieniere – Howden – Buch
    Kreider – Strome – Gaut

Need to try something else that might work…we keep losing.
