The NY Rangers have avoided arbitration with Brendan Lemieux, signing him to a two-year contract. The contract comes with Lemieux’s arbitration date coming fast, and is a $1.55 million cap hit.

The deal is about what was expected for Lemieux. It was expected to be two years in arbitration, based on the numbers submitted prior. The $1.55 million is in line with the $1.5 million expected settlement as well.

Two years for Lemieux is also about right for the Rangers, as they need to truly see what they have in him. All of the RFA deals thus far have been kicking the can down the road and ensuring the Rangers make the right calls when the next big offseason comes up.

Avoiding arbitration with Brendan Lemieux, and signing him to a two year contract, was basically expected. If there was anything surprising about this offseason for the Rangers, it’s how quiet and expected it was. Perhaps more is to come, but it looks like their jobs are done for now.
