A late Sunday rumor regarding the NY Rangers, as Jacques Martin could be headed to Broadway as an Assistant Coach. Per Elliotte Friedman, Martin “could replace Lindy Ruff in New York.‘ Martin was let go by the Penguins this offseason, where he was an Assistant Coach for the past five seasons.

Martin was a prominent head coach in the 1990s-2010’s, spending nine seasons with the Ottawa Senators. He also spent three seasons each as the head coach of the Florida Panthers and Montreal Canadiens.

Martin has a reputation as a defense-first coach, specializing in improving team defense. Whether or not that holds true in today’s NHL will remain to be seen. Either way, Jacques Martin should be able to help the Rangers defense take the next step.
