The Rangers and Hurricanes again kickoff a full day of hockey with Game 2 this afternoon. Game 1 was very sloppy for both teams, with the majority of it being played on special teams. Today’s game is likely to be played more at even strength.
The Rangers were bad in Game 1. They mistook physicality and intensity for sound hockey, and it cost them on more than one occasion. They will need to bear down and stick to fundamental hockey. Getting in on the forecheck, playing better defensive hockey, and getting more consistent offense.
Playing better is a start, but the best players on the Rangers need to actually play better. Jesper Fast’s injury won’t help matters, but if half the offense comes from Marc Staal, this will be a three game series.
