What a week for the Rangers organization. After a masterful week by Chris Drury, the bombshell news hit. James Dolan is stepping aside from day to day operations of the Rangers, and his son Quentin Dolan will take over. This is a shocker as we hit the holiday weekend, as there was no indication that James Dolan would be ceding control of any of his teams any time soon. Perhaps the Knicks championship changed things, or perhaps this was always the plan so James can focus on the Knicks.

We know absolutely nothing about Quentin Dolan, other than he was working in a front office role for the Blueshirts. What his day to day was is still unclear, but his role was in the Player Performance and Science Department, which makes sense given his Biology Research background. As a 32 year old with that kind of background, I do wonder if Quentin will have the Rangers lean a bit more into analytics than in the past.

What is very interesting is Quentin Dolan’s title. He will serve as President, Chief Operating Officer, and Alternate Governor of the Rangers. President is the interesting title, as that’s a title Chris Drury currently has. Perhaps Drury’s title will shift to President of Hockey Operations (and General Manager), while Dolan will be President of the club as a whole. Just something that caught my eye.
