The New York Rangers have acquired goalie Joonas Korpisalo from the Boston Bruins in exchange for a 2028 4th round pick and prospect Kalle Vaisanen. Korpisalo played 31 games with the Bruins last year, putting up a .894 SV%, his third straight year with a sub-.900 save percentage. The 32 year old goalie has two years and $4 million remaining on his contract, which seems like an odd contract to take on.

Kalle Vaisanen has not progressed the way the Rangers had hoped, and he’s more of a 4th line prospect at this point. The interesting part of this trade is Korpisalo’s contract, as that’s a big cap hit for a backup goalie. With new CBA rules, the Rangers can’t flip him right away either. Just a weird trade.
