The first day of the 2026 NHL Draft was a flurry of action early for the Rangers, trading for RFA winger Pavel Dorofeyev and signing him long term to a 7 year, $11 million contract. Right after, the Rangers selected LD Alberts Smits 5th overall. Both came with mixed reactions. The Rangers still have Vincent Trocheck and Braden Schneider as key trade pieces, and there’s a possibility we see more movement today.

The Rangers hold 8 picks today:

  • 2nd round: 64th overall
  • 3rd round: 67th, 77th, 81st
  • 5th round: 131st
  • 6th round: 162nd, 163rd
  • 7th round: 193rd

The Rangers currently have no picks in the 4th round. I’d be a little surprised if the Rangers make all 8 picks, and I expect some of those 3rd rounders to be moved in trades. I’ll have a summary of all the picks later today.

I have a family event all day, so please use this as your open thread to discuss the draft. Remember to keep it civil please, we are all adults.
