Breakup day has come and gone with little fanfare and only one real “interesting” piece of injury news regarding Vincent Trocheck. The draft lottery on May 5 is the next big day on the Rangers calendar, and the Rangers 2026 draft lottery odds are going to be a major discussion point as things get moving along. The Rangers finished 30th in the NHL, which puts them at the third overall pick heading into the lottery. Naturally, things aren’t that simple.
The NHL draft lottery is one of a kind. It doesn’t necessarily stop tanking, but it does a good job of not flat out rewarding tanking the way the NFL does. For example, the Vancouver Canucks were the worst team in the NHL by a country mile. They only have a 25.5% chance of retaining the first overall pick. Their most likely scenario is the third overall pick at 55.7% chances of happening.
