The Rangers have recalled forward Brett Berard from the Hartford Wolf Pack for the fourth time this season, which feels like a new record in recalls for a prospect before February. It’s a tad insane how much Berard has been yo-yo’d by the Rangers, which can’t be good for his confidence. In those three previous recalls, Berard played in 12 games in a bottom six role and has not contributed on the score sheet. He has, however, been a consistent pest and forechecker.
Berard’s recall is likely due to Artemi Panarin being held out of the lineup until he’s traded. It sounds like something will happen before the February 4 roster freeze for the Olympics, but nothing seems imminent yet.
