The New York Rangers have returned defenseman Scott Morrow the Hartford Wolf Pack, meaning Adam Fox returns tonight, per Colin Stephenson. Morrow was the only defenseman that can be reassigned without passing through waivers, which should hopefully keep some of the “play the kids” outrage at bay. Morrow played well in his recall, notching two assists and continually improving over his 13 games in this recall. Morrow will be back once there is roster space.
As for Fox, the Rangers desperately need him back. Braden Schneider did not step up in a bigger role, and while Morrow is a good puck mover, he’s no Adam Fox. Fox and Vlad Gavrikov are one of the best defense pairs in the NHL, and if the Rangers want to even try to turn a corner, they need their best guys to play like their best guys.
You know what’s wild? The Rangers have a top-3 goalie in Igor Shesterkin and, at the very worst, a top-five defense pair in the NHL, and they are still awful. Just a total trainwreck.
