Rangers recall Brennan Othmann; Adam Edstrom day-to-day with lower body injury

Looks like the “play the kids no matter what” crowd is getting what they want, but in a good old fashioned monkey’s paw way. The Rangers have recalled prospect and 2021 first round pick Brennan Othmann as Adam Edstrom is dealing with a lower body injury and may not play tomorrow against Dallas. Othmann has played 26 NHL games over three years and has just two assists to show for it. This is likely the final year that Othmann has to prove himself before the Rangers look to move on.

Othmann looked a lot better last year under Peter Laviolette, even if he didn’t score a goal in those 22 games. This year he’s seen just one game at the NHL level and looked somewhat lost. In Hartford, he’s played 15 games and has a line of 1-6-7. Suffice it to say, Othmann has underwhelmed and isn’t helping silence naysayers that he’s a powerplay merchant. If he plays, even if it’s not in a scoring role, he needs to show what he can do.
