The Rangers have recalled defenseman Scott Morrow. The recall is likely due to Will Borgen’s injury, as he did not play last night and it looks like he won’t play tonight against Detroit. With the Rangers at 23 players already and without placing Borgen on IR, there had to be a player sent to Hartford to make room for Morrow. The only player that could be sent down without waivers was Gabe Perreault, so let’s not all lose our minds over this.
To repeat: This is a move because of an injury and roster space issues. This is not reflective of Perreault and probably goes against what the Rangers had planned for Perreault. There is probably hope Borgen can return to the lineup within the week, which is why he wasn’t placed on IR to make roster space for Morrow’s recall. There are also cap space considerations.
With the new CBA rules, Perreault must play one game in Hartford before returning, which will be Tuesday. The Rangers head west after tonight, so there’s a chance Perreault doesn’t get recalled until after the trip ends.
Morrow is a much needed puck moving defenseman, so we will see how he looks in the lineup. We also get to see Braden Schneider in a 2RD role.
