The Rangers have recalled top prospect Gabe Perreault in what appears to be a desperation measure to cure whatever it is that ails them at MSG and on offense in general. This call up reeks of desperation as the Rangers are faced with an odd offensive drought that they should be way too skilled to be going through. This team is way too skilled, but all their shots are hitting goalies right in the chest. It’s been maddening to watch, which means it must be maddening for the players as well.
Perreault is the Rangers top prospect and is off to a hot start in Hartford with five goals and 10 points in 9 games this year. The Rangers wisely sent him to Hartford after training camp to get his legs under him and adjust to the pro game.
Gabe Perreault is not a savior. Perreault will likely slide into the top-six in place of Taylor Raddysh, thankfully, and hopefully will give the Rangers a bit of a shooting boost. But again, he is not a savior. Do not make Gabe Perreault into a savior. You will be disappointed.
