The Rangers have signed 2024 5th round pick Nathan Aspinall to a three year entry level contract. Aspinall, the 159th overall pick in 2024, is another big body that can do more than just grind and hit people. Comparable to Adam Edstrom and Dylan Roobroeck, Aspinall has a nice scoring line of 6-4-10 in 6 games this year in the OHL as a 19 year old. Last season, his age-18 season, he put up a very respectable 17-30-47 in 62 games.
Hope has put Nathan Aspinall in several of her prospect power rankings, noting that the skill is definitely there but he can sometimes struggle to be present for all 60 minutes of a hockey game. That was last season, so perhaps he’s worked on that this season. It’s clear the Rangers like him, as they appear to have found a nice niche in the draft with big players that are skilled and can skate.
Aspinall, who will turn 20 at the end of March, will finish the year in the OHL before heading to the AHL next season.
