The next round of Rangers cuts has come and gone with two cuts, as Scott Morrow and Gabe Perreault were sent to Hartford this morning. The cuts aren’t overly surprising as Morrow has been up and down and Perreault was always projected to start in Hartford. Neither of these moves cripple their growth as prospects, and it cements the feeling that Brett Berard was always “the guy” to break camp this season.
Morrow has certainly had his struggles at times this preseason, so his reassignment was pretty much guaranteed. It is a bit surprising to see Matthew Robertson still with the club, but perhaps the Rangers truly want to see what he has given all the time they’ve invested in his development.
With Gabe Perreault sent to Hartford, the Rangers are pretty clear in their intentions: They want two dedicated scoring lines and two dedicated defensive lines to start the season. We shall see if performances from Perreault and Noah Laba in Hartford (projected) change his approach halfway through the season.
More to come.
