Gabe Perreault will skate in the top six in the NY Rangers lines tonight, alongside Mika Zibanejad and Will Cuylle. Zibanejad will be centering this line as the Rangers navigate the JT Miller injury, which could wind up being a good thing as it opens another wing spot for the Perreault/Brett Berard battle. Noah Laba is also in the lineup tonight as he and Perreault continue to impress in camp. Berard is not playing tonight and appears to be a lock for opening night.

The third line tonight could be the Rangers third line to start the season, assuming Mike Sullivan holds steady with his desire to have the third line serve as the shutdown line. I wonder if he will eventually come off that approach as kids like Laba, Perreault, and perhaps even Edstrom start to turn heads. There’s room to make the third line a sheltered scoring line, with the fourth line serving as the shutdown line.
Remember that as always, the roster/roles to start the season are not what they will be to finish the season.
