Earlier this week, the Rangers rookie camp roster was released, as rookie camp starts today. Most of the names are as expected, with one exception. Brennan Othmann, who is entering the final year of his entry level contract signed in 2021, is a bit of a surprise to see on the roster. Othmann could be named captain of the rookie camp, which would explain why the soon to be 23 year old is participating this year.
Outside of Othmann, notables to watch at camp are centers Noah Laba and Dylan Roobroeck, wingers Gabe Perreault and Adam Sykora, and defensemen Jackson Dorrington and Scott Morrow. These are the highest ceiling players at camp by a wide margin. Goalie Callum Tung is on the Rangers rookie camp roster as well, but it’s tough to see where he fits in the Rangers goalie timeline.
There are some other notables that are a step down from the guys mentioned above. Jaro Chmelar and Carey Terrance come to mind here. Of course there’s always a sleeper that impresses, and my guess would be Bryce McConnell-Barker. McConnell-Barker had an ok first year in Hartford, putting up 4-8-15 in 68 games. He would be the next best center prospect after Laba should he hit his ceiling.
