Per Scott Wheeler, we could see the Rangers trade for the #3 overall pick. Wheeler is reporting that Chicago’s #3 overall pick could be in play, and the Rangers are one of the teams interested. If the Rangers trade for the #3 overall, , it’s a good bet that K’Andre Miller is involved. Now without the #12 overall, there would need to be more heading to Chicago to make this work.
If the Rangers trade for the #3 overall, it’s likely for James Hagens. As Will noted this morning, Hagens has about a 40% chance of being the best player in the draft and was originally the projected #1 overall pick before other risers gained popularity. Though if Anton Frundell goes at #2 overall, Michael Misa would probably be the Rangers pick at #3. That seems unlikely, and I’d expect Hagens to be the target should this come to fruition.
As for trade cost, giving up the #12 this year significantly limits what Chris Drury has available. Chicago needs defensemen, so Miller is a given. Beyond that, it’s tough to see how the Rangers can make this work.
My proposed trade: Miller, Brennan Othmann, Brody Lamb to Chicago for #3 overall?
Aside: I had to re-write this one after the 12th overall pick news broke.
