The three regular season Rangers awards have been announced, with Jonny Brodzinski, Jonathan Quick, and Will Cuylle all receiving accolades. Cuylle received the Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award, announced last week. Quick won the Mr. Ranger award, announced earlier this week. Today, it was announced that Brodzinski would be the Rangers’ nominee for the Bill Masterton Trophy.

Cuylle was logically the only player who could receive the Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award, aside from Sam Rosen or the fans for putting up with this team this year.

The Mr. Ranger Award, created in the 2021-2022 season to recognize the Rangers player who best honors Rod Gilbert’s legacy by exemplifying leadership qualities both on and off the ice and making a significant humanitarian contribution to his community, was awarded to Quick. This drew some ire since the “backup goalie was the only guy they could pick” is a narrative that fits too well with the current group.

Brodzinski is the Rangers nominee for the Masterton Trophy, awarded annually to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey. Given his career path and how he’s mentored the Rangers youth, this was well deserved.

All three are deserving, and the way this season has gone it’s easy to overlook these regular season Rangers awards. But they deserve to be celebrated.
