We have an Arthur Kaliyev injury update, and it is not good. Kaliyev is out for the rest of the year with an upper body injury, per Colin Stephenson. Kaliyev last played in the March 11 loss to Winnipeg, logging just 7:49 TOI and not playing for the second half of the third period. This is an odd injury announcement, as we don’t really have a replay of what happened or any idea what the injury could be.
Kaliyev didn’t play much with the Rangers since being claimed off waivers, but looked somewhat okay when he did play. He’s not overly fast, but has a solid hockey IQ and is willing to shoot from anywhere. With his excellent shot, it helped him cover for his lack of skating ability.
Kaliyev wasn’t likely to be in the bottom-six rotation, so this loss won’t be felt unless the Rangers start getting visited by the injury bug again. The rotation of Brett Berard, Brennan Othmann, and Juuso Parsinen will continue.
