The Rangers have re-signed goalie Jonathan Quick to a 1 year contract extension. Quick, who has revived his career in New York, has been one of the best backups in the NHL. Though his numbers this year don’t necessarily jump off the page with a 3.14 GAA and a .896 SV%, but that’s more on the Rangers being whatever it is they think they are this year. Quitters?

Quick has been solid and there’s no reason to believe he’s slowing down and/or can’t handle another year as the backup. At $1.55 million with a significant cap ceiling increase, Quick’s contract is peanuts. He’s a solid and reliable backup that, if the Rangers want to go for it next year, they will need.

As for Dylan Garand, there’s nothing wrong with letting him get a full year in the AHL, instead of splitting time with Louis Domingue.
