The Rangers recalled Dylan Garand yesterday as the Rangers resumed practice and on-ice activities. Most of the top-of-the-lineup is still missing, with Team USA facing Canada in the Four Nations Final tomorrow evening. Igor Shesterkin is still battling his upper body injury, and while he is expected back before this weekend’s pivotal back-to-back in Pittsburgh and Buffalo, Garand is needed for the time being.
If Shesterkin is out longer than expected, and the Rangers don’t win both games this weekend, we can likely kiss the playoffs goodbye this year. Perhaps that’s doom and gloom, but it’s also reality. Jonathan Quick has been phenomenal as the backup, but it’s always been Shesterkin’s net. The Rangers need him back, and fast.
