The Rangers battered blue line took another hit against Buffalo, when K’Andre Miller left the game early with an upper body injury. Per Colin Stephenson, the Rangers have placed K’Andre Miller on IR, and Connor Mackey has been recalled and is taking shifts with Braden Schneider. Everything else remains intact.
It’s clear the Rangers need at least one more defenseman, but it’s odd to me that Chad Ruhwedel hasn’t gotten an actual chance. He was signed to be the depth defenseman and he simply hasn’t played. Victor Mancini’s playing time made sense early, but with his consistent struggles it would make more sense to have him in Hartford getting more ice time.
Now Mackey joins the list of defensemen that have leapfrogged Ruhwedel. Ruhwedel had a rough start, but he hasn’t been worse than any other Ranger defenseman thus far. Hopefully Miller is healthy soon.
