The New York Rangers have returned forward Matt Rempe to the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack. Rempe was recalled after a weekend stint last week to play in a couple of games before being returned yesterday. Rempe has barely played this season, even in games when he dresses. With Jimmy Vesey coming off LTIR, it was a matter of numbers and time.
It’s clear Rempe still has areas of his game to work on. He won’t get the appropriate playing time in the NHL to work on those things, so the AHL is the best spot for him. Rempe can and hopefully will become an effective NHLer, but the refs need to stop targeting him to do so. In order for the refs to stop targeting him, he needs to earn trust to be an effective player in all three zones.
He’s 22. There’s time.
