Per Vince Mercogliano, Matt Rempe returns tonight for the Rangers after a weekend with the Hartford Wolf Pack. Rempe will slot in for Jonny Brodzinski tonight in our nation’s capital against the Caps with an eye on Tom Wilson and/or Dylan McIlrath. Despite neither playing a role in their playoff series last year, it appears this is more of a precaution than it is a message. The Rangers aren’t sending Rempe out there, they are dressing him just in case.
Rempe’s return will likely be short lived, as Jimmy Vesey will likely come off LTIR this weekend. When that happens, the Rangers won’t have the cap and/or roster space to keep Rempe. Plus, Rempe is best served getting big minutes in Hartford as a 22 year old than sitting on the bench doing nothing. It’s all about the future, and Rempe will have a good future as he continues to develop.
Hopefully there won’t be any distracting shenanigans from Washington’s goons. It would be nice to see Rempe play actual hockey, something we all know he can do.
